Already in his teenage years Mathieu Maynadier embarked on a journey to become one of the most distinctive figures of the progressive mountaineering scene. Born in the heart of the southern French Alps he was surrounded by crags and snow-covered jagged peaks from the very beginning. Before he knew it, he lived and breathed mountain sports.
Mathieu started off as a ski mountaineer. He was quickly selected for the French national team and got to compete at the international level winning silver at European Youth Championships as well as two national champion titles on his home turf. In search of new challenges, he stepped out of the race binding to immerse himself in the world of mountaineering. The expeditions in the following years brought him to the most remote corners of the earth and nurtured his free spirit.
The thing we love about Mathieu is that he is a true all-rounder who bonds with nature anywhere he goes, be it big rock faces in Alaska or Peru, steep slopes of eight-thousanders, Greenland’s icy seas, great alpine walls in his backyard or… classic lines in the Tatras. And whenever he needs more sun and warmth he enjoys sport routes in his beloved Verdon. For Mathieu it is taking every opportunity to seamlessly blend a variety of mountain disciplines that fuels his ever-burning passion.
Mathieu Maynadier is considered one of the most experienced and talented alpinists of his time. Suffice to say, his first ascent of Lunag 2 in Nepal earned him the nomination for the Piolet D'Or 2011. Back home Mathieu works as a mountain guide and coach of the French National Mountaineering Team. In 2021 he also explored his culinary skills creating Mash&Cheese, a new highlight of our LYO EXPEDITION line.
"Mash&Cheese by Mathieu Maynadier" is the third meal out of a unique menu of meals developed together with our brand ambassadors.
