Simon Gietl
Simon cherishes mountains and remote places, but always carries his beloved home and family in his heart. He appreciates taking on daring solo projects and relishing solitude in the wilderness, while also enjoying spending time with other people. As an athlete, he is keen on experimenting with new concepts and merging mountaineering with paragliding and freetouring. Good food fills him with joy.

How would you describe your relationship with nature?
Nature is my outdoor home.
If Mother Nature could talk, what do you think she would tell us humans?
Mother Nature doesn´t need us to be happy, but we need her.
Which expedition experience has shaped you most as a person?
India 2011, because Daniel Ahnen, our cameraman, had an accident on that expedition.
What basic qualities should your expedition partner have?
In addition to the mountaineering know-how, I would like to go for a beer with him.
Which LYO product can’t you imagine going on an expedition without?
Penne alla Bolognese reminds me of home and because it has now become a tradition to look forward to this dish on long, hard tours.
If you were not a mountain athlete, who would you be?
A carpenter.
Why alpinism then?
Because I followed the call of my heart.
